Newly Diagnosed - stage 4 secondary breast cancer in bones

Hi all,

I've never posted on a group chat before but after reading a few posts I thought I'd give it a go.
I've been diagnosed with stage 4 secondary breast cancer that is in my bones. I'm Her2 positive also and awaiting a treatment plan which should be tomorrow. I'm 38 with 3 wonderful kids and husband. I'm dreading telling my eldest whose is the only one who'll understand. I'm tired of being called brave already but I'll fight with every last breath I have for them.

thanks

Elle

  • Hi Elle, just to say welcome and I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Very best wishes for your appointment tomorrow and I hope you can get treatment started soon xx

  • Hi

I have been diagnosed with SBC in my liver and lungs her2 and hormone positive in May 2021 i was 33 at the time and also have 3 young children my baby boy was only 7months old. I went through chemo and now on daily letrazole tablets and monthly zoladex + phesgo. Im feeling great and my latest CT scan showed all my mets gone. I hope you have your treatment plan in place soon.

  • Hi,

Thank you both for your replies.

Kaz that's amazing to hear where you are today and feeling great. I guess it's easier for your mind to go to the worst but it's great to hear when things can work out.

    Thanks for the hugs x

  • It is for me the wait was the worst part but after getting the full diagnosis i was ready to fight it for my babies and my husband and all my loved ones. Trust me you dont realize how strong you really are and your family is your motor to fight it xx

  • This was the hope I needed to see today

I've been told SBC is not curable so to read that your mets has gone has done wonders for my mental health today  !

I feel so sick and tired all the time please tell me it gets better with treatment

  • Hi

This has put a big smile on my face and I really hope I can give you some positivity

In term of treatment my 1st one was horrible I have ended up in a hospital for 4 days with low neutrophils but no infection was found. After they lowered my dose it was almost like a walk in the park. Had some fatigue but not to the point that I couldn't function I was still doing school runs, also my body felt very heavy at times, I never had any nausea but a horrible taste in my mouth. On the other side I had chemo cycles where I barely had any side effect and I worried that it's not working as it should. Are you not being given any anti sickness mess before your cycles? I always used to get mine. So with my treatment it was hit and miss but mostly I felt OK. Can I ask what's your diagnosis and treatment plan is?

Sending big hugs your way and I really hope you feel better soon there's light a the end of the tunnel it. Our cancer might not ne curable but it surely is treatable and I treat is as chronic illness and hopefully you can too

  • Hi Kaz

Im starting to feel more positive after seeing a different consultant who was more reassuring about treatment, regardless of this cancer not being curable. I started radiotherapy for 5 sessions and I'm half way through. Then on to chemo this week for 6 months every 3 weeks plus HER2 injections for the foreseeable and bone injections every month. The consultant also talked about new trials that are coming up to keep in mind.
I like what you said about thinking of our diagnoses as chronic illness that is treatable rather then thinking it's a death sentence.

  • Hi Elle

I'm so glad that you started being more positive. Was the radiotherapy for the bone mets? I too get her2 injection every 3weeks plus zoladex implant every 4 weeks. It is a chronic illness this days as diabetes or arthritis.  I want to wish you good luck for coming chemo and I hope you get the least of side effects. Are you going to get docetaxel?

    Sending lots of hugs

    Kaz xx

  • Morning

Yes the radiotherapy was for the bone mets in the pelvis. I will be on Docetaxel, was that what you had? Thanks for the luck and hugs.

  • Hi

Yes I had 6 rounds of docetaxel every 3 weeks. It shrunk my tumor from 5cm to less than half after 3rd dose and by cycle 5 I had nothing in my breast.

Good luck and keep in touch
