Cancerous mass found in colon: need full information

Having had what seems like every test known to man over an 8 week period a cancerous mass was found in the sigmoid part of the colon. I have been left not knowing what happens next had my pre opp tests done twelve days ago and have not been kept up to date with treatment plans. I know it may sound pushy but I am a person who wants facts in front of me and then I can walk forward this waiting is worse than the diagnosis

  • Hello March16 and a warm welcome to  Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear you have found out you have a cancerous mass in the sigmoid part of your colon. It's not pushy at all to want some answers and to want to know what the treatment plan might be and what the next steps are. We have a general page on our website on bowel cancer but treatment plans can vary so much with bowel cancer depending on the actual site of the tumour that it will not give you specific answers. All you can do really is wait for more information to come through to you and as you said rightly, for a lot of people the waiting stage is actually harder to bear than the actual diagnosis. Once you have all your facts and information, it will be easier then to focus on the treatment route you are being offered. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you will soon be kept up to date with the treatment plans. As you had your pre-op tests already, perhaps you could try and get in touch with your specialist or GP and try and find out a little more about whether they have more information they can share with you at the moment? They will understand I am sure that you are finding yourself desperately needing answers and a concrete action plan.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call at any point if there is anything you wish to discuss

I hope everything goes well for you and I wanted you to know that you are not alone, that many members of our forum will have had a similar diagnosis and hopefully they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.  I hope you won't mind but I have edited slightly the title of your thread so that it is slightly more specific and can be more easily spotted by others who have been diagnosed with a sigmoid colon tumour in the past or presently.

    Best wishes,
