Curious

Hi...New to this. Hope everyone is well as can be. Diagnosed yesterday with a haemorrhagic ovarian cyst and have been sent for urgent referral for a further scan on the two week cancer pathway. Typical symptoms of bloating, bowl and bladder discomfort and pelvic pain. The pelvic pain is actually worsening daily. My gp has been faultless in addressing this. My ca125 was normal. Stool and blood samples normal. Some liver inflammation. I'm curious to know why I've been placed on the 2 week cancer pathway if my ca125 was normal.... any knowledge is appreciated. Thankyou.

  • Hello CharlieChalk

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems recently. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious and have questions about the next steps in resolving these symptoms.

It's good to hear that your GP has been so supportive and that they've referred you to see the specialist. Whilst the CA125 test can be used as part of the diagnostic process for ovarian cancer a raised level can be caused by other gynaecological conditions and it's possible to have a cancer diagnosis with a normal level. It sounds like your GP is being proactive in referring you on the 2-week pathway to make sure that you're seen as soon as possible so that a cancer diagnosis can hopefully be ruled out and also so that any appropriate treatment can begin asap.

We know that waiting for appointments and information can be a difficult time. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

Do keeping touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there...

Many thanks for taking time to respond. I appreciate it. You've explained pretty much what I was hoping you would. In an age where GPs are getting a lot of negative press I'm extremely grateful mine has responded so well. My gut instinct (excuse the unintended pun) tells me it's nothing too serious. I'll try update when possible. Wishing you all well x
