New Member with Cancer (tongue and possibly neck)

Hello

My name is Andy I am 43 years old and have had a big lump on the side of my tongue for a few months.

I went to the GP in January and have been sent for the usual tests.

I have had bloods, mouth x-ray, CT, MRI and I have my biopsy next week. My consultant is pretty sure its a malignant tumor on the tongue and the CT / MRI will show if its spread to the head, neck or lungs.

Im pretty early on in the journy and quite positive at the moment.

I know I will loose half my tongue and will probably also need radiotherapy.

Feeling healthy still but the tumour does hurt - cant wait to get it out to be honest.

My family and work have been amazing and I feel very lucky to have a good support network!

I have been reading a few threads here today and its really helpful to hear about other people who are going through this.

  • Hello! Sorry to hear about your painful tumour. Sounds like you're in good hands and getting all the tests you need for treatment to begin. I had a diagnosis of breast cancer a week ago. As the nurse said, it's a lot to take in. Anyway, it was just to say best of luck with the biopsy and I hope you can get treatment started soon.

  • Hey

Thanks - fingers crossed the scans and biopsy come back good and its relatively simple to treat!

  • Hey, just wondering if you could let me know how the surgery went etc? My dad has his surgery 2 weeks today and we’ve been told it will be 8 hours and they’ll do a skin graft to try and give him as much tongue back as possible, but this will create a few tougher weeks as he’ll need a trac in his throat and feeding tubes etc for 3 weeks and I just don’t know if I can see him like that. Was yours a long surgery and now after 2 years are you feeling more like yourself?
    thank you.
