Awaiting confirmation after biopsy

Hello. I'm 44. Found a breast lump on Wednesday. Incredibly, managed to get an appointment at a Bupa breast clinic that night. Upshot is it's not a cyst, 4cm in size, and 'suspicious'. They biopsied it and my armpit because lymph nodes were enlarged. I go back for results on Monday and was advised to 'bring someone with me'. ***. Any words of advice? Trying to be brave.

that was a mirror image of my first appointment at spire

  • Hi there,

I'm sorry, it's scary, I know. I was told I had breast cancer before I received my biopsy results. It was in my lymph nodes too.

IF it is cancer you can reassured you moved fast and treatment will start as soon as possible. But you don't know that yet.

I got some sleeping pills from my GP during all the waiting and testing, as I was going mad with worry. That helped. I tried to stick to my "normal" activities as best as I could, and stopped googling things.

Whatever happens you will feel better once you get some answers x

  • Hi tryingtobebrave, sorry you are going through this. I had a biopsy three weeks ago and then a 12 day wait for results after being told by the doctor who carried out the biopsy that the cells were suspicious. Longest 12 days of my life. I actually felt better when I got to the hospital for the results because I felt something was being done. In my case it is breast cancer but the doctors and nurses have been fantastic and there is now a plan in place for treatment. I hope it all goes ok on Monday.

  • Hi Tryingtobebrave,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear of what you are going through and know just how scary this wait is.

You are fortunate that you haven't had to wait long to get your biopsy results. As someone who has had 2 bouts of breast cancer, I would agree with the advice to bring someone with you to your results appointment, on Monday. You will also find it helpful to write down any questions you may have for your consultant, as it's all too easy to forget something important during your consultation.

Avoid Google and try to keep yourself preoccupied with other pursuits, until Monday. Irrespective of the outcome, you will feel better once you know what you are dealing with.

I sincerely hope that all turns out to be better than expected. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
