Sore throat before chemo

Hi,

I am due to have a Picc line tomorrow and will start chemo on Wednesday. I now have a sore throat and my glands feel swollen. My temperature is bouncing between 35.9 and 36.5 so I don't have a high temperature.

Can anybody advise if chemo will still go ahead please.

  • Hello TMR

I hope that you were able to go ahead with having your PICC line fitted today and that you're feeling well enough for treatment to start tomorrow.

Do let us know how you get on when you're able to.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I didn't have the Picc line as I was too afraid and the nurses could see that I was too stressed out to. They said my veins were ok to try a cannula first and maybe a picc at a later date. My temperature was ok for my appointment because I burn up when I am nervous and stressed but my throat is still hurting. They said that my chemo can commence as long as my temperature is ok. I feel terrible going through this but know that I am not alone.

I can't believe that it is happening. I didn't want to frighten my 6 year old with the picc and didn't want to restrict cuddles with him through fear of hurting myself.

  • Hello TMR

I'm sorry to hear that you were feeling so anxious for your appointment today. I wonder if the anxiety is what's causing your throat to feel sore but it's good to hear that treatment starts tomorrow as planned.

Hopefully, once you get this first cycle over and done with you'll feel more confident going forwards but don't forget that if you want to chat with someone our team of nurses is available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Let us know how you get on when you feel able to.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Jenn, I'm hoping once treatment starts that I can accept this terrible disease. My dad died in 2014 of lung cancer so I worry that the scans will find other cancers. I'm not sure at the moment, breast cancer is my problem at the moment. They did say that they saw another lump in between my chest. I worry for my son and my fiancee, I can accept dying, but how can I leave my family, they need me. Hopefully, it's treatable, but I'm.just scared at the moment.
