Hi everyone, I am now 50.
I had a mirena coil fitted when I was 42, and had a few complications, had it changed twice, but nothing major! It never stopped my periods, but it did stop the cramps every cycle, so I was pleased about that. Fast forward to age 48 and my periods became very heavy, so I asked my GP to take out the coil, I nearly shot off the bed with the pain!! So she sent me for an ultrasound scan and that's when they discovered that there was a bulky set of fibroids. I was referred and booked in for an endometrial ablation. I was happy to think I'd have no more periods because there was no sign of menopause yet.
(Still isn't age 50)
Anyway.... I had the day surgery and woke up screaming in pain. Given morphine and sent home. I was not well at all and constantly bled for 8 weeks. I have pelvic pain every cycle and heavy periods still, it's got me so down....waiting for another gynaecology appointment, but I'm so scared now, we talked about failings and a hysterectomy and I hear good and bad stories about it. Has anyone been through this hell? What advice would you give me please
