Consultant says I have Breast Cancer, waiting for results

Hi please can someone help me. I went to my gp who felt my lump and she did not think the lump was anything to worry about and she could feel nothing in my armpit. She suggested that I visit the breast clinic as she obviously could not rule it out for certain. I went on Friday and had a mammogram and ultrasound and the consultant told me there and then that she was certain that i had breast cancer but wanted take a biopsy from the lump and from under my arm. She took three samples from each. My friend told me today that she should not have told me that until she had the evidence from the biopsy as the biopsy could still come back benign. I have now got it in my head that it must have spread and it must be incredibly bad and that's how she knows without evidence. Please could someone help me as I am now so scared again

    Hi Sam,

I am sorry to hear of all that your mum has been through, but so glad to hear that her treatments have been successful. Unfortunately, you sound as if you are a pro at this. Whilst it is helpful to go to your appointments armed with a list of questions, it is equally helpful to have someone to take a note of the replies, as we tend to forget about 80% of what is said before we leave the hospital gates. I was fortunate in that my hubby was my scriptor. We always attended with duplicate questions and he wrote down the replies, as I asked the questions. If you're hubby can attend with you, this should be a good solution.

Night time is the worst time for most people, probably because we don't have the many daytime distractions and can give reign to our imaginations. I hope that you find that yoga helps tonight. Some people also find mindfullness beneficial.

I'm sure that you will feel better once you get your results. I'm hoping that seeing that you picked this up on a routine mamogram, it is still in the early stages.

I'll be thinking of you on 20th and hope that it all goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

Thank you Jolamine.  Before I read this message I was digging out a notebook that I've assigned especially for this process!  I do most stuff on my phone these days, but I know that hubby will be better with pen and paper

    Take care xx

    Hi Sam,

My hubby certainly found that he was quicker writing with pen and paper, than tapping everything into the phone.

Wishing you the best of luck, when you see the consultant.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi ladies,

I just wanted to update you all. I spoke to the breast consultant on the phone on Friday. She called me after I had called to check my results were back and that my appointment would go ahead on 14th as planned. She told me over the phone that both biopsys have come back benign. Obviously I am thrilled but.... when I went for my 1st appointment they told me they thought it was likely it was BC. My letter states "we are suspicious this is breast cancer and we will take biopsy's to clarify the diagnosis and treatment plan" now I am still having an appointment on 14th but I have changed it to telephone as I thought it better than going in. I have loads of questions I want to ask them but I'm wondering if there's anything yiu think I should ask that I may have forgotten. I am just about getting over the shock as I was led to believe it was a foregone conclusion that this was cancer. I didn't feel elated like I thought I would and I am still anxious. Also, randomly, a woman came for an appointment just after me and she happened to have the same DOB. We heard her give it to the receptionist. What if they've muddled us up?? I have spent a month in a state and can't actually believe it.

At the time of the phonecall I just wanted to get off the phone and tell my mum and partner I was OK so I didn't ask any questions at all

Good luck to everyone getting results this coming week.

    Lots of love Clara xxx

im do so so happy for you it's good you have posted your outcome as this will help others so much

I wish you the best my lovely ️

  • Thanks Lara. I'm still waiting to speak to them on Tuesday. The consultant said the word benign and that's pretty much all I heard and just wanted to get off the phone. As everyone here knows it a hell of a time waiting, especially when they have already said they think it's cancer. I will post again after my appointment Tuesday when I have more info. Hopefully what they tell me will help others in this situation.

Thanks for all the support. Xxx

  • Hi Clara

That is wonderful news, I'm so happy for you

I'm sure these feelings we've been going through won't stop overnight and your emotions will continue to be all over the place.

Thanks for sharing and hope you understand more during your telephone appointment on Tuesday .

    Love

    Sam x

  • Hey Lara,

I've searched high and low for good news stories since I was given the news it was likely I had cancer and they are few and far between. So if I can help ease 1 persons anxiety then that's good enough for me. Thanks again you gorgeous bunch. Xxxx
