Consultant says I have Breast Cancer, waiting for results

Hi please can someone help me. I went to my gp who felt my lump and she did not think the lump was anything to worry about and she could feel nothing in my armpit. She suggested that I visit the breast clinic as she obviously could not rule it out for certain. I went on Friday and had a mammogram and ultrasound and the consultant told me there and then that she was certain that i had breast cancer but wanted take a biopsy from the lump and from under my arm. She took three samples from each. My friend told me today that she should not have told me that until she had the evidence from the biopsy as the biopsy could still come back benign. I have now got it in my head that it must have spread and it must be incredibly bad and that's how she knows without evidence. Please could someone help me as I am now so scared again

  • Thank you Jolamine   As you know the waiting is difficult but I actually feel OK at the minute. Had some very anxious days but I'm not going to worry now until I have to. It will Be a month of waiting by the time i get my results, but i feel better now these biopsies are out of the way The support on here is phenomenal. I haven't really posted but the way stranger's rally when these things happen is really special.

  • Hiya, we seem to be at the same stage in this journey, i was diagnosed on 30th jan after biopsy previous week, i then had to go for mri and due to go for another ultrasound this thursdsy as there is a mark of concern so to rule out or act on .

Am finding all this waiting with what ifs and maybes hard to take in, just hoping the weeks go quickly x sending you hugs

  • It's just awful isn't it. The waiting feels like forever. I hope you are doing as well as can be. Have they told you what type your cancer is and what treatment you will be having? Did they say they thought it was likely to be cancer before you had your biopsy? Sorry for all the questions and I understand if you don't want to answer.

Big hugs and positive vibes to you xxx

  • Thank you so much everyone for all your advice it is so much appreciated and such a help. I am just incredibly scared and you imagine the worst with every ache and pain you get. I agree Dr Google is not the way forward.

Oestrogen positive.  The original plan was chemo, surgery then radio but will need to wait til i see consultant again on 24th to know for certain its the same order.

  • absolutely. Thank you lovely xxx

  • It's such a shock isn't it. I bet you just want to get going with the treatment now. I never realised how much waiting was involved until now. I'm so glad they have a plan for you and can get you sorted. I'm here as well if you need a chat. Xxx

  • Chaz I've just seen your other post. We are the same age. I'm 43 too. Xxx

  • Trust in your team of doctors, I was told before my biopsy results that my lump was cancerous. It seems like you went early and all the tests will determine the outcome. You must be so scared but the breast doctors and nurses are specialists and they will do the best for you. There's lots of support on here.
    Best wishes
