Potential Unknown primary, what next?

Hi

I have newly diagnosed liver cancer which has been classed as a NET. Biopsy suggested it came from lungs but subsequent PET and CT has not found anything on the lungs. In fact the PET hasn't found anything other than the liver site which is not changed at all. I'm getting frightened of what this could mean for me and my family if the primary isn't found. I'm still trying to come to terms with the fact I've been diagnosed at all so young. How am I meant to feel? They think it could be thyroid and are scanning this and taking blood but everything seems like we're not getting any answers on the way forward and I'm losing hope I'm going to survive , I can't sleep and I'm worried all the time ..

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Mcm although I'm very sorry to hear about your diagnosis and for the worry this is understandably causing.

I really do hope they're able to locate where the primary is but I hope this information we have about cancer of the unknown primary will help to put your mind at ease about this just in case they're not able to find where the cancer started.

Coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis can be very tough but I hope you can take some comfort and strength from knowing that many of our members have been in this situation, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer your their support and advice.

Our team of cancer nurses are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040 if you'd like to talk any of this through with them as well.

We're thinking of you Mcm and sending all our strength and support your way at this very difficult time.

    Kind regards,
