Basel cell cancer.

Hi all.

I was told by my Dr that my lump is a slow growing cancer.  I shouldn't worry and I am not. But over last week I been getting more pain and more headaches from the area.  Should go see the dr again? Also I am waiting to hear from hospital and wondering what's the waiting time? Will they ask for family history? As I lost my mum to breast cancer and my brother from skin cancer. Sorry for different questions. Just don't want to make a nuisance of myself.

  • Hi Helen,

I can understand your worry but I don't think your headaches and pain are due to the bcc. Basal cell are, 99% of the time, non-invasive, so don't spread internally to nodes and organs. Possibly stress and anxiety are causing muscle tension resulting in pain and headaches. However, if they continue, it won't harm seeing your GP so they can rule out any other cause.

The waiting time for BCC have always been longer than for suspected melanoma - with Covid delays I believe a referral appointment is now taking an average of 6 weeks. If you haven't heard anything by then I suggest you ring Dermatology at your local hospital and confirm you are on their waiting list. You should be able to find their number on the hospital website.

Good luck and I hope you aren't waiting too long,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Hi Angie

Thank you so much for getting back to me. It really has put me at ease. I see how I get on next week and then call dr. Pain is only in the area of lump. I wait a bit longer then. Thank you so much for that.
