    Hi Jeanie-sedg,

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Many newly diagnosed people worry about any delay in treatment, but there is a big demand on cancer services and we cannot all be treated immediately. There often has to be time to let a biopsy site settle down, before the surgeon can operate and they do fit you in as soon as they possibly can.

In essence, you have not been waiting that long. Do you know what type of breastt cancer you have? There are different types and grades of breast cancer and surgeons will prioritise these in order of severity, where possible. Sometimes they even delay surgery and start treatment first. This is usually done to try and reduce the size of a lump, prior to surgery.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer 12 and 13 years ago. I waited a few months for surgery after diagnosis and this time lapse didn't cause any further spread in that time.

I hope that the oncologist can help to set your mind to rest when you see her on 10th Jan.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi and thankyou for the reply, I have 2 lumps measuring 4 cm together at stage 2, I will have chemo and target therapy at the same time as I am carrying the protiene her2 that's feeding the cancer, then I will have a lumpectomy and more chemo, I understand there are worse than me and more urgent, I still can't help stressing over the time passing and this spreading so much that it becomes a later stage and terminal, I wish you well and thankyou, love and best wishes, jean xx

  • Hi Jeanie-sedg

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. This is a challenging and unsettling time. I agree with the points Jolamine gas made and that you've not been waiting that long although I do know that everyday is like a week when we are waiting. I was diagnosed at the end of October 22 and had surgery early December and there was no spread so I hope that you will be ok too. I did worry about this while I waited. Everyone's treatment plan can be different and your team will develop a plan specifically for you so you may be given treatments first before surgery. It all depends on the type, grade and stage of the cancer. In my experience to date I had to wait for 2 weeks between each consultation for results etc.

It is easier to cope once you have your plan and schedule agreed. I hope you will get these details next week. Its a good idea to have a little notebook for all your appointments and to make notes and have your questions written down as it will help you to remember what you want to ask the team about.

I wish you the best of luck.

  • Thankyou so much for the reply, this site does settle worries, I do have a diary that I have been using for questions and thought appointments etc, which is a great help, thankyou again for your kind words I wish you well xx

  • Aww sweetie, please try not to worry so much. Easier said than done! But you have been so supportive with me as a newbie too and I also worried about it spreading.

As we know the fear takes over if you let it, so dont let it in... that little gremlin in there has now been caught and the smile on its face will be slapped good and proper very soon!

I started my journal yesterday, as encouraged by yourself.. so stay strong beautiful lady. Fill your days with the things you want to do that day and let the tomorrows take care of themselves .. sending positive vibes and lots of hugs xxxxx

  • Aww. Love your kind words, I'm positive usually just a moment took over, we have each other and we will get there cancer free, our walking today it's lovely blue skies and I feel great , love our chats xx

  • Good girl! Have a lovely walk xxxx

  • Hi, l was diagnosed on 22nd December 2022.   I am going to the hospital tomorrow to see the team to see what my treatment plan will be. The Dr that did the ultrasound and took the biopsies said that she is pretty sure l have stage one and l will need a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy and hormone therapy.  It's all a bit of a shock. I am 57 and have been supporting my 60 year old husband who has Prostate cancer and what treatment he should have and when, then

BANG ! Happy bloody Christmas and the thing l have found most difficult apart from the shock and emotional turmoil has been the messages in all the Christmas cards saying (Wishing you a healthy and happy new year) they don't know yet. It's good to know there are others here to share with x

  • Hi elli, I found out the day before you, I'm having chemo and target therapy then a lumpectomy, then more chemo, I havnt yet started my treatment but wish they would hurry up and get me booked in, not a great time to get this news is it, but no time is really, I wish you and your husband well, this site is absolutely wonderful for all the information you need and all support, take care, jean x

  • Hi Jeanie

Thankyou so much for taking the time to reply to me.  I will know more tomorrow, hopefully l won't have to wait too long for surgery l will let you know what they say tomorrow.
l hope l will be able to give you support as well at some point.

    kind regards

    Elli x
