Cone biopsy/laser ablation CIN 3

I have recently been diagnosed with severe CIN 3 abnormal cells - I have undergone a colposcopy with biopsy and have now had a cone biopsy and laser ablation. I thought I was done but have now received a letter saying that despite the treatment I had done they can't guarantee it's gone and recommend a further procedure. I am assuming they are talking about a hysterectomy?

Has anyone else had the above treatment and been offered any other type of procedure that I may not be aware of?

I'm in my 50s, so it's not like I'm likely to be needing my womb but I'm still freaking out about the after-effects to my health, my lifestyle (fit active gym freak), and what happens if the HPV comes back and I don't have a cervix or womb?

  • Hi KC4800,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this uncertainty must be difficult. It's hard to advise on what they may be recommending - I hope it's not long before your next appointment to find out more.

In the meantime, you may wish to speak to one of our nurses. If you'd like to do this, you can either post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum, or you can call freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5, excluding bank holidays).

Otherwise if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
