Instant diagnosis from colonoscopy

Hi, I was told I have bowel cancer last week immediately after having a colonoscopy. I am waiting on 10 biopsy results and CT scan to see if it has spread.
Is it likely to already be in advanced stages if it was visible as cancer just from the colonoscopy? I'm worried sick

Has anyone else had this but still been in early stage?
Thanks

  • Hi, they have said th eye suspect cancer and have me on the cancer pathway but said they will only be able to confirm after the surgery. I'm not looking forward to it (would anyone?!) but appreciate it could be life saving so will do what I need to. Good tip for the hospital thanks! They have said they will try and get me moving as soon as possible and that it helps so will do my best.
I've already had contact with MacMillan and a lovely nurse has been with me and my husband most appointments which is nice. She is so lovely and caring.
Last lot of blood tests tomorrow and seeing the stoma nurse to mark my stomach just in case required. Thanks, op is on Monday so will let you know in a week or so xx

  • MacMillan really are amazing! Because I can't get the glue on my surgery scars wet until the glue scans off, I haven't been able to shower much, so I still have to dots that the stoma nurse drew on me on my belly

keep positive, and hope it all goes well for you!! X

  • It's amazing what you can do or make do with when you have to! You sound like you have a good attitude towards it all. Did you have to have a stoma bag? They don't know yet if I'll need one because they are unsure how much is affected until they go in. Im trying to stay positive but also realistic and preparing for whatever gets thrown at me.

Wishing you well with your recovery xx

  • I went into surgery, also not knowing how much they had to take, if it was gonna be open surgery or laprascopic, and if I would need a stoma or not. I was lucky I had laprascopic surgery and had no stoma. My very good friend had bowel cancer and had to have a stoma, she's having it reversed this month and is gutted about it as she loves it!! So if you do have to have one, it might not be for long, and even if it is permanent. It's saved your life. All this surgery is life saving. That's what I keep reminding myself. It's for such a short time in our lives. It's massive and tough, but it means we get however many more years on the planet! We're warriors and the body is amazing!!

  • Hiya,

Been thinking about you, how did the surgery go yesterday?

Get lots of rest and drop us a line when you can x

  • Ah thank you. Surgery went well and only needed to do the left hemicolectomy and not the extended right too which was good news so no stoma needed too. Quite painful today but I'm ok. Won't know results for at least 10 days. Hopefully will be allowed home on Friday so all as good as it can be for now. Thanks for thinking of me. I hope you're doing well xx

  • So pleased to read that you didn't need the stoma.
Rest as much as you can & fingers crossed you will be home asap.
I am ok, starting chemotherapy & radiotherapy tomorrow so a wee bit nervous but am positive about the start of my  treatment. Take care of you.

    S x

  • Best of luck with the start of your treatment. Thinking of you today and sending strength xx
