Tumour on outside of lung recently diagnosed

Hello,

My dad was recently diagnosed,2 and half weeks ago after a CT scan, that he has a 4cm tumur at the top of his left lung. The doctors at first said it was lung cancer and its inside his lung.It has gone into the lymph nodes beside the tumur. When they did the biopsy yesterday they said its not on the inside but on the outside of the lung. They couldn't get enough tissue for the biopsy so have to send him to another hospital next week with better equipment. He is on  waiting list for a PET scan.Do you think a tumur on the outside of the lung is more positive than inside?I obviously think yes but I'm looking for an opinion.Im so stressed over this and I'm worried so much for my dad.He is only 63 and has so much to live for.He is eating well enough and just has pressure going down his chest.Other ultrasounds showed his other organs are fine. Thanks in advance.

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community blackvan2020 although I'm sorry to hear your dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

This must be very tough but many of our members have experienced lung cancer, either themselves or through their family and friends, so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

We have a team of cancer nurses that you can discuss your dad's situation with in more detail as well, so if you'd like to get their thoughts on this, do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to answer your questions about your dad's tumour.

We're thinking of you blackvan2020 and wishing your dad all the best with his PET scan and biopsy next week.

    Kind regards,
