Taking ages for treatment to start - where can I complain?

I've been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer but doctors taking weeks to start treatment and just making excuse of one last test , sometimes nurse say test result is arrived but not discussed the doctors yet and now she says result has been sent somewhere else and we are chasing it. It's 3 weeks now and still no treatment started. My cancer type is aggressive one and what if goes to stage 4. I'm so worried and frustrated with the situation. Does anyone knows where to complaint or get any help. Thanks

  • Hello ZNama

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and that you're concerned about the length of time that it's taking to complete the necessary tests before starting treatment. The team will need to make sure that they have all the information available so that they can plan the best way forwards and make sure you're getting the right treatment for your individual circumstances.

We know that it can be incredibly worrying whilst you're waiting for news. Sometimes it can help to talk and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat with one of our nurses about how you're feeling. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can whilst you're waiting for news. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

If you want to talk to someone at the hospital about your concerns surrounding the length of time it's taking to start treatment then I'd suggest getting in touch with the PALS team who are there to help resolve concerns when using the NHS.

I hope that things proceed smoothly for you and that treatment starts soon.

    Best wishes,
