Triple negative breast cancer and Chemo

I was wondering if everyone with a tnbc diagnosis is offered chemo as standard or if it's only if it's stage 2 or later? I had my lumpectomy last week and won't get my sentinal biopsy result until a week Wednesday, but was wondering what to expect treatment wise going forward. My breast nurse told me I'll deffo get radiotherapy but never mentioned chemo. Anyone out there had stage 1b grade 2 who hasn't had chemo offered?

Thanks in advance

  • Hello heth54

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I hope that you're recovering well from your lumpectomy.

We know that many people find this stage of their journey to be difficult. The uncertainty that comes with waiting for results can be difficult and it's natural that you may be feeling worried about what the next steps will be.

The decision regarding possible chemotherapy really will depend on the results that come back next week. Try not to think too much about the what-ifs and maybes if you can. Worrying won't change the outcome. the important thing now is to invest in recovering well from your surgery so that you feel ready for whatever the next steps may be.

We know that sometimes it can help to chat things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk with one of our nurses. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

Keep in touch heth54 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello heth54 I have been diagnosed with stage 2 grade 3 and was looking at a lumpectomy I have recently had a mri scan and need to go back to clinic on Friday as a few things amhave shown up on the mri I was originally looking at lumpectomy possibility chemo and radiation they said the chemo is determined by age and the health tissue they remove and examine after surgery hope everything goes well for u hun as this stuff is scary and difficult to deal with xx

  • Thanks for the reply Stacey. I hope everything goes well for you too. My lumpectomy results come back next Tuesday so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Good luck Hun xx

  • Thanks Jenn. I had a chat with my cancer nurse and she was able to clear a few things up for me. In the end, I'll just have to wait until my next clinic appointment to see what treatment options are required so need to stop worrying and concentrate on recovering from my op.  Sound advice I think.
