Post op WLE and sentinel lymph biopsy

Well, had my op today to remove my lodger (triple negative breast cancer)...needless to say, still sore and swollen. The consultant ended up taking a few lymph nodes instead of the one he was going to take, but hey ho. On the plus side, my pee is now blue!

Just waiting for lymph biopsy result now to see if lodger was alone.

  • Hello heth54,

Well done for getting through the operation! I hope that you are recovering well despite it being sore and swollen. Make sure you get plenty of rest .

I can understand that you are feeling worried that the consultant ended up taking a few lymph nodes but it's good that they are being thorough and I hope that you won't need to wait too long for your results. Everything crossed for you! Waiting for results can be nerve racking and I thought I would share this page with you which has great tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Your pee is blue? That must be quite a sight  I hope this is just a temporary thing and that it gets back to normal soon.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have been in a similar position before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie,

Thanks for the reply and the link. I do find the waiting for results to be one of the hardest parts to be fair. Until then it's a constant rollercoaster of "of course they caught it early and it's gone now" to the other thing (which I'm desperately trying not to consider). Only time will tell I guess. It seems strange to me that less than a month ago I was a reasonably healthy sane person, but now I feel as if I am defined by my cancer diagnosis (by myself, that is) and can no longer trust my body to be just that - my body, and not a vessel for a hidden assassin. I think it's going to take a long time to be able to look at myself as who I used to be.

  • Hello Heth54

I'm also at the waiting stage again! I had lumpectomy, reconstruction and sentinel node biopsy on 2nd November and I agree the waiting the pits!

I'm very sore and tender at the moment (more so now than the week after surgery) and I'm exhausted.  Think the exhaustion is the mental worry and not getting a full night's sleep.

    How are you doing today?

  • Hi Hollibob,

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently in the 'nothing I can do about it' zone, so just have to wait and see, but in the past two weeks I've been at the 'the lumpectomy has cured it' end and all the way to ' it'll be stage 4 and there's nothing they can do' end. As far as I can tell, all perfectly normal reactions to the news that I have cancer. It seems strange to me now that 4 weeks ago the only thing I was worried about was being a bit over weight. I know exactly what you mean about sleep...last good night I had was over a month gone and the tiredness takes its toll almost as much as the uncertainty does.

I get my biopsy results on 22nd. Hope your results bring good news for you hun xx
