Cancer of the Appendix

My Mum has recently been diangosed with cancer of the appendix which has spread to her colon and abdominal wall, we do not know the stage or the prognosis yet as we have yet to see the oncologist, we do now have an appointment, finally after 8 weeks since diagnosis.  To add to this, I have received a fast track referral for a biopsy and scan for suspected gyno cancer.  It all seems completely overwhelming at the moment and not sure which way to turn.  I have heard that there is a blood test which can diagnose cancer and have requested this from my GP today, as I am also concerned about the genetic side of colon cancer.  Has anyone any advice or been through something similar? Is this an acceptable time to wait to see an oncologist??

  • I'm sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis Tracsimon and that you are also waiting for a fast track referral at the moment. This must be an incredibly stressful and worrying time for you both.

These last 8 weeks must have been very difficult as well but it's good to hear an appointment has finally come through and I hope the oncologist is able to give some good news when you see them.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their advice and thoughts on your mum's situation but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They are very helpful and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

We're thinking of you Tracsimon and are sending all our strength and support your way.

    Kind regards,
