Uterine polyp and thickening of womb

Hiya guys I'm writing this as I'm a little worried and this is all I can think of at the moment back in March I was sent to the hospital for blood transfusion as I was severely anemic my periods were so heavy I had to change a pad and tampon every half hour I was given 4 units of blood and stayed in hospital for 2 nights I was given a scan and was told I had a thickening of the lining of my uterus and a large polyp I have now been told I'm getting an urgent referral for operation as they think it might be cancerous but they said they doubt it as I'm only 21. I'm hoping to get the operation in next couple of months. I've always suffered with extremely heavy periods my whole life and always suffer with anemia. I'm also worried about my symptoms as I'm on the pill continuously so shouldn't bleed but I'm bleeding on and off and all the time I have bad cramps and I'm also always tired 24/7 any advice would be appreciated thank you

  • Hello Amberbamber49 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

Poor you having had so much bleeding that you had to stay in hospital for 2 nights. It's good that they are taking things seriously though and investigating what is going on. Hopefully as it's an urgent referral you won't have to wait too long - try not to anticipate too much what it might be. Even though they want to rule out cancer, they did say it was not likely as you are so young but it's good that they are being thorough and I hope that the operation will come quickly and help sort these issues.

Make sure you mention all these symptoms to your doctor, the fact that you are bleeding despite being on the pill and that you are very tired and experience bad cramps. I hope that you will hear from other members who have experienced these issues and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
