Brother dying of Lung Cancer

My brother found out recently that he has agressive lung cancer and his partner has stopped letting us know what is happening, they are not married, his immediate family find things out via other people that are owould they inform me n facebook, if i ask the nurses are they allowed to inform me of any changes because we are siblings? my mum will be next of kin so can the hospital inform her. we are worried that facebook will find out when he passes away before his immediate family. what rights di i or mum have?

  • Hi Le-an,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm very sorry to hear of the situation with your brother - this sounds incredibly difficult for you all.

It's hard to know what to suggest here, but you may find it helpful to look at the information from the Patients Association regarding next of kin. They also have a helpline that you can call for further advice, which is: 0800 345 7115 (open weekdays 09:30-17:00).

I hope you're able to find out more soon and to get the updates you need.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
