Ruptured appendix cancerous

Hi,

My husband went into hospital 7 weeks ago with a ruptured appendix,  ended up having open surgery due to them finding a mass on it, unfortunately they sent it off and it came back and the result was a massive shock!

We are kind of in limbo it's a very rare cancer and have said my husband will need future ct scans and also his medical notes have been sent to a specialist hospital,  has anyone else been through this? We havent heard from the consultant in 4 weeks? My husband is being fine, me on the other hand wants answers

Thanks

  • Hi Kez

I had a ruptured appendix 4 years ago. The biopsy was carried out after my op and found abnormal cells that was a type of cancer which was also very rare. I can't exactly remember the details but I was called in to speak with the doctor pretty much straight away and told I needed a colonoscopy to check if it had spread. Fortunately it hadn't and it was just the appendix that had been removed and I was in the clear. They said I would need to be monitored by the surgeon for the next 5 years. So far they have cancelled all my scheduled appointments each year!

Did they say anything about having a colonoscopy?

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the reply,

Yes I'm sorry I forgot about that, they said in 8wks so I guess he should have an appointment in the next few weeks,

I cant believe they have cancelled every appointment!?

This type of cancer is rare,

    Xx

I'm so sorry regarding your recent BC diagnosis xx

  • My husband's cancer started in his appendix.. goblet cell carcinoma. He also had it in colon and peritoneum. Surgery removed all of the above and then needed 12 session of chemo x
