What to expect

Hello, my dad is 80 , never smoked and has just been diagnosed with bilateral lung cancer . Because of his age and how he is the drs have advised no treatment, and have referred him to palliative care. Because he has not had a biopsy, and has just had a ct scan and bloods we don't really know any more in respect of what type of lung cancer , or if it is elsewhere ( he only had chest ct) does it matter ? Do we need to know, as in will it help? We are thinking he must be in a very bad way if they are doing nothing, how long will we have with him, how will we know if we don't know exactly what type of lung cancer or where else it is, so many questions

  • I think you have the right to know everything and I would definitely push for it ,I'm sure they will give you all the answers you need so you know exactly what you're dealing with .

  • Hi Mollya,

I’m not sure if you will read this as you originally posted some time ago. Your dad’s experience sounds very similar to my dad; doesn’t look like a biopsy will be done and I am thinking how can Drs know next steps if type of lung cancer is unknown? Palliative care has been mentioned, we pushed and seeing an Oncologist hopefully within next 2 weeks. I hope you found the answers for your dad.
