Diagnosed by ultrasound

Hi

I'm just curious to know if anyone else has been diagnosed with breast cancer at their appointment by diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound?

I also had a biopsy but I am awaiting the results but the radiologist was confident I have breast cancer.

so, now the wait for my histology results and according to the radiologist the decision of the MDT.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • Following my examinations at the clinic and the ultrasound and biopsy the consultant said it was very suspicious of breast cancer and she sees it regularly enough. It sadly turned out to be breast cancer when I came back 10 days later. However fortunatley for me she had the forsight to book me on mri scan and additional tests before I came back which meant these were ticked off so to speak which sped up the process.

I think generally speaking they tend to know. But there exceptions and there have been people on here and even a friend of my brothers had good news and the biopsy turned out not to be cancer. She even had an mri so was convinced it was going to be bad news so it does happen.

Just take each day as it comes and good luck with everything. There seems to be a good community on here if you need any advice.

    Xx

  • Hi

    Thank you for replying x

Yes, he was very confident so I am thinking that my biopsy will probably confirm this, however like you said there is room for human error and that would be amazing but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

They have told me that I should receive an appointment date this week, but due to the postal strikes I have also been given a contact number, so if I don't hear anything by Friday I have been told to contact them .

I hope you are doing ok x

  • To be honest I think when they are confident it is cancer they tell you earlier on so its not such a shock when the biopsy comes back. At least you can go into that meeting with some idea that you may have cancer and can ask some questions.

I found it helpful to write down the important things I wanted to ask, because once they diagnose you its a bit of a whirlwind of tests and scans. Until you have the biopsy histology back you won't know which course of action they will take if it is cancer. I have triple negative breast cancer with node involvement so my plan is chemo to shrink it then hopefully a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy. If my genetic testing comes back positive however it may mean mastectomy but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I have my meeting with the oncologist tomorrow so will hopefully know more of my plan of treatment and get a start date for my chemo.

With regards to the postal strikes my hospital have been ringing for urgent appointments, but I downloaded the nhs patient app. It means I can see any appointments as soon as the secretary makes them so might be worth doing that. My mil works for the ppst office and there about 12 or 13 days this month alone they are striking so god knows when you will recieve post!

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

    Xx

  • Hi

Thank you for replying to me, I totally agree with what you have said after doing a bit of research.

I have my appointment this Friday so will know my results and what's what then.

I am under the family history consultant and my cancer was picked up in my routine yearly mammogram, so I have already started my list of questions.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, this cancer is such a little Sh*t isn't it? I'm determined to smile and giggle my way through this, I will not let this little Sh*t beat me!

sending you lots of love ️

    hope you are ok xx

  • Hello Dolly

Yes this has just happened to me last month and confirmed by breast surgeon only last Friday.

I have now been given a date for breast surgery on18 November.

I think they give you an indication of the likelihood to soften the news when confirmation finally appears via the histology of the tissue sample taken during the core biopsy.

It's a tough gig make no mistake about it and we are here to give you support by sharing our experiences.

  • Hi laraj

Life is a bit mad at present and not only for me but others on this forum.

Since last week I have taken to walking my sausage dog and spaniel in the gloaming ( just as light fades)  and I do my usual circuit but now in reverse gear as I have slowed down considerably.

I met a lady in her dressing gown outside her door in her front garden ( I  live in a tiny wee village) and we started to chat ( as One does) because the sausage dog plus spaniel are great ice breakers.

I don't know this lady from Adam and she does not know me.

Well  the most amazing thing is happening I'm telling her all about me and she's telling me all about her and it's brilliant letting off some steam to another human and vice versa.

Basically spouting off that our men don't really listen and so on and taking our minds off what is worrying us by a process of distraction and not mentioning illnesses.

As I said to her .....if I put all my problems in a suitcase and you put all your problems in a suitcase then we would not swap suitcases!

My husband asked me when I came home breathless ( side effect of tumour ) if I had a toy boy?

I suppose I would not do this in a big city or town but living in a wee village with some incomers as this lady is has its pluses!

Yes life is a bit  mad at the moment.
