Has anyone had the cold cap any recommendations

Has anyone had the cold cap I've heard it's horrendous but I think I want to try

Has anyone had the experience of it and does it make you feel worse

Thanks

  • I'm planning to give it a go too, having my hair cut shorter today as thought might. Make things easier. I'm told the first half hour is difficult but gets better after that but not spoken to anyone who has actually tried it.

  • Good morning,

Yes I used the cold cap, my was thick and long I absolutely loved it. I also used it as I kept my Breast Cancer a Secret from my children.

    My Chemo was FEC-T

Would I do it again absolutely!

Firstly definitely look at the Paxman website it has all the information that you will need.

You need too make sure it fits and it's really tight. I didn't cut my hair I left it long. I have a small head an it didn't fit close to my head on the top so had a bald patch on the top. My hair thinned but I still had my hair.  Also it started to grow back where I lost it before my last Docetaxil. When it did grow back it grew back quickly and really thick and was the same as my hair. I did have it cut short five months after my chemo as it needed sorting out.

It does extend the time your in the chair, as you have to wait a certain time before you can take it off depending on what Chemo your having. Take 2 paracetamol an hour before. You will need a cotton head band to protect your forehead and top of your ears. I also used a cotton ball on my temples. I would put a travel pillow around my neck this really helped. The first 15 mins while it's going numb is tough but after that it's fine.

your team will wet your hair and put conditioner through it, take in some Simple conditioner. I used simple shampoo and conditioner, use a wide tooth Combe not hair brush.

I wish you well with your treatment and hope the cold caps works for you xxx
