Metastatic colorectal cancer

I wanted to find out how long I should expect to wait for my first appointment with the oncologist. My diagnosis came 6Oct and I was informed by Macmillan nurse that I could be waiting 3-8 weeks for 1st appointment. This is a stage IV cancrr, palliative treatment only. 3-8 weeks seems like a long time if the cancer is aggressive. Genotyping was submitted only on 14Oct after MDT meeting, although histopathology biopsy was taken on 7Oct. I don't even know who my oncologist will be. Is this normal or what others are experiencing?

  • Hello 66jerryb,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

As you can imagine, health services are in high demand and waiting times do vary and depend on availability. If the wait takes longer, I would encourage you to chase this up with your clinic to make sure you're being seen as quickly as possible. There is some information on the possible treatment options here, which might help, but I do hope you get more details about your first appointment soon.

    Best wishes,
