TCC in ureter

Hi

My husband was diagnosed with cancer in ureter the same week his DAT scan came back positive for Parkinsons.

He has had  bladder cancer for over 20yrs and it was at last check up they found it.  He is 76 and over last few years has become quite frail due to serious cycling accident 2020 and devt of parkinsonism symptoms.

He had radical nephureterectomy on 26th of September and has follow up appt with surgeon next Thursday.

Two questions.  One is about experience of recovery and the second is what to ask at  f up appt and what is usually offered post surgery routinely.  His other kidney is working at 46.

Rare cancer and having difficulty finding info or support.

Thanks

Catherine

  • Hello Catherine,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear about your husband's double diagnosis: having to deal with cancer and Parkinson's at the same time must be really tough for both of you especially as he has been frail since the cycling accident in 2020.

Information about the radical nephrectomy can be found on our website on this page and I hope that you get to hear from the experiences of other members of the forum who have had a radical nephrectomy before as well as the follow up appointment with the surgeon. I had a little look around the forum and found for example this thread by [@NonaDave]‍ who posted a few months ago about their radical nephrectomy and follow up appointment experience so feel free to respond to that thread if you wish and I hope that you get to talk to others who have been through this before and that they can share their insights and recovery experiences.

Don't hesitate also to give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 and ask them any questions you might have - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that the follow up appointment goes well on Thursday!

Best wishes to you and your husband,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
