Hi All,
Just looking for a bit of advice/guidance as my head is in a spin! I found a lump in my breast about 4 weeks ago at the bottom about the size of a grape and was referred to the breast clinic. I'm BRCA1 positive with a very strong history of breast and ovarian cancer in my mum and both aunts. When I went for ultrasound the radiologist said that the lump was irregular, could see a lymph node and they wanted me to go for a mammogram before biopsy which I did. I then came back and they said they couldn't see anything on the mammogram and proceeded to biopsy. When they took the biopsy however, the radiologist said they could see the lump collapsing. I thought oh good, just a cyst!
I was then called to see the consultant who went through all my history and examined me again. He then said that the tumour was very highly suspicious and given my family history 'is breast cancer' and they'd be doing a double mastectomy at the very minimum (which I'm fine with as I wanted it for prevention anyway). But as the biopsy results aren't back how do they definitely know it's cancer - I know he'll know what a cancer looks and feels like but he was absolutely certain! I'm now doubting myself as to what he actually said, and I have to wait until next week to find out the actual results. I thought cancers were solid tumours so why did it collapse? I have so many questions but don't want to hassle the lovely breast care nurse as she did ask my if I wanted a chat afterwards and I said no thank you and basically ran away!! I feel like the appointment has left me with more questions than answers!!
Thank you for any advice or experience you could give! I'm 31 next week x
