Follow up appt after total hysterectomy

Hi,

my mum had a total hysterectomy following a diagnosis of endometrial cancer, stage 1a.

we have her follow up appointment on Thursday and I'm trying to establish whether we should expect any further treatment/scans.

I have heard that in some trusts a PET scan is standard after this procedure, even in stage 1a but I'm not sure whether this is something out Trust will offer. If not, is it something we should ask for?

also is there anything else we should consider discussing at this follow up appointment?

unfortunately mum has complex health needs and so I will need to offer lots of support at this appointment. I am worried there may be something obvious I will forget to ask about.

any advice greatly received!

thank you

  • I think they normally test the lymphnodes around the area for cancer cells when you have surgery so guess it would come down to if any come back positive. Guessing the surgery was considered successful? If yes and no positive lymphnodes and no more treatment is needed maybe ask about how frequently she will be having scans to keep an eye on it and for how long. For example, Im every six months for the next five years. Also Is your mum currently going through the menopause, as I ended up asking mainly about how to cope with symptoms like starting HRT patches. Hope this helps! Xx
