Referral to another hospital- breast cancer

Hi,

 

Has anyone had any experience of requesting a referral to another hospital for surgery? 

I have been diagnosed with IDC and I am currently waiting for a date for a single mastectomy and diep reconstruction.  My current hospital have advised they have staffing issues and that if they are unable to complete the mastectomy and diep they will then refer to Manchester (I'm Staffordshire), if they are unable to accept then I would have to.have the mastectomy with delayed reconstruction.  There is an extensive waiting list at my hospital.  I would prefer to have the operation completed together rather than delayed reconstruction.

 

Has anyone been in a similar position and requested a referral to another trust? does anyone have experience of what the process is for requesting a referral?

    The specialist will be the best person to speak to about how the process could go for you. I hope you won't have to wait too long. In the meantime, there is some information here on immediate or delayed reconstruction as they both have their pros and cons.
