Newly diagnosed

Hi everyone

I felt a lump in my right breast about a month ago, got an appointment the following day with my GP who thought it was just breast tissue as it was not solid, but anyway she referred me to the breast clinic. Got an appointment for the 4th of September, just a few days before my holiday. I had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on the same day. I was extremely anxious throughout my holiday, got back on Friday, got my results today and it is unfortunately the dreaded BC. I have had my bloods done today, MRI to follow shortly and then have an operation to remove the lump in a few weeks. I am extremely worried, i have been crying all day. I don't know how to tell my family especially my mum (she just lost her brother to cancer last week) and also my two girls

  • Hi, just wanted too reach out, your not alone, I'm 38 with two young sons and was diagnosed October 2021, it was a huge shock but once I knew what i was dealing with I felt better. You will feel better aswel when you get your treatment plan. It's the unknown that is scary. I had a lumpectomy My nodes were clear, I had chemo and radiotherapy' and now on hormone tablets.

Treatment is so advanced nowadays. You must tell your family you will need them. You will be ok it's a bump in the road. Xxx

  • Hi snow-drop

Thank you so much for your message. How are you feeling? I am still trying to process it all. I was told that based on the results on the 3 tests they did, they can see my lymph nodes are clear but MRI will confirm if that the case. Plan at the moment is to have the lump removed and then going to be put on some drugs to suppress oestrogen (I think). Now what I am worried about is what if MRI finds it is in my lymph nodes what does that mean for me

  • Hi, That sounds positive, mine was oestrogen Fed so I’m on Anastrole and prostap injections to shut my ovaries down. The mri will check things over, this is a good thing although I know results are scary. I suspect they might remove a couple of nodes to check aswel when you have your surgery , they took two out of mine too test. Don’t worry to much if it’s in your nodes they can sort that. My ultrasound said my nodes looked clear and they were. It’s a long journey but you can do it. Xx

  • Hi para, Just a short message to say please stay strong and positive try not to worry too much it may cause you more stress. Talk to someone if not immediately your family maybe an advisor at c.research. Keep your head up you can do it you will. Positivity is the key I promise you things have advanced so much you will be fine. Try when you feel you can to do all things healthy e.g, changing your diet. You will get through this.

    Thoughts are with you.

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry that you have to join the cancer club. Your family will support you through the next few months. They'll be upset that you haven't told them already.

The next few months be tough but you'll get through it, especially with the help and support of everyone around you. Be advised by your team, educate yourself and ask questions. The more you know will arm you for your battle.

Good luck and keep us posted B xx
