Is it normal to be sent for a bone scan before Biopsy result

Hi, I'm desperalty hoping someone can help. I  had a hospital appointment on Tuesday for a lump in my breast. Unfortunately they found another lump and ended up doing two biopsy's. They said they won't wait for the results and have arranged a CT scan and a bone scan. It's the bone scan that terrifies me. I'm under the impression that's not a standard thing. I'm terrified it's already in my bones. I've got two young children and I am petrified. I know I've got Cancer but has anyone come away with it all being treatable? I feel like it's potentially spread so far I won't see my children grow up. Sorry to ramble I'm just hoping other people have had this and still been treated successfully.

  • Hello Random1,

What a stressful time it must be for you. I know it's really hard but try not to draw any conclusions from the fact that they have arranged a CT scan and a bone scan for you before receiving your results as there may so many different reasons why they decided to do that. It's good that things are moving fast though and hopefully you will get some clarity soon on what is going on.

It's normal to be feeling really scared at the moment and I just wanted you to know that we are there for you whenever you need to talk and I hope it won't be long before you have a diagnosis and know exactly what you are dealing with.

The wait for results can feel interminable and I hope that you are managing to keep busy with your little ones. Don't anticipate the worst though while you are waiting to find out more and try if you can to keep focused on a day at a time doing the things you enjoy doing and keeping busy if you can.

I know it's easier said than done though and there are some good tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I will now let our members who have been in a similar place before and who have been through all this come and say hello and share their story with you.

Everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine. Keep us updated if you get a chance when you find out more!

    Best wishes,
