Vallecular Cyst

A right vallecular cyst was spotted when I had a hospital appointment over a year ago, although having gone back this week they have decided to remove it now ( mentioned being slightly breathless climbing hills etc, although had my chest sounded at doctors and they were happy with me).

Anyway last year when first spotted I was told it was benign, now they saying they never know for sure till it is removed although last appointment all they did was look at the scan pictures from last year and never did an endoscopy this time either. ( They did last year).

Also has anyone had this procedure done? I believe I will be asleep during this and a pipe is inserted down my throat to help me breath and they remove the cyst with surgical tweezers.

How long does it take and how long will I be asleep for?

Thanks

  • Hello robbox,

I can imagine this is a bit of a stressful time for you as you are waiting to have this vallecular cyst removed. It's good they have decided to remove it especially as it was making you breathless.

It's reassuring that they told you it was benign last year but once they have removed it hopefully you will get confirmation that it is nothing concerning.

I hope that you will hear from other forum members who have had this procedure done before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

As you are waiting to have the procedure, I can imagine you have a million questions running through your head and it is best if you can to stay well away from the temptation of looking things up online as it will only bring up the worst possible and least likely scenario. It won't be long now until you have the procedure and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all goes well. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Best of luck for the cyst removal and best wishes,
