Single mastectomy

Well I got my diagnosis on Tuesday and I feel like It's really only sinking in that I have to have a mastectomy. I'm off to the hospital this morning to discuss reconstruction. I'm concerned about the recovery I'm concerned about the size and shape will it match my other boob. Immonly

small b cup. I know they aren't big but I don't see me without boobs.  I feel like it's only just sinking in now what's going to happen x

anyone else had a mastectomy and wants to tell me how great it all was, or any worries or anything I should look out for xxx

  • Hi there,

I am a little bit further along than you on this journey. I totally understand where you are coming from. I don't mind losing my hair, or doing the chemotherapy. But I too am struggling with the fact that I have to loose a boob.  You need to be strong and fight your corner for this. My specialist is aware that I want an immediate reconstruction and I am going to do this, even if I have to pay for it - I will save up. I know I sound a bit silly, but I like my boobs. My mother had breast cancer in 2011 and didn't have an reconstruction plus she had a reduction on the other side to a C cup. She seems happy and chose a prosthetic. She said at first the scar was tender.

I hope this helps, you are not alone.

  • Hi Domini

Iv spoken to the nurse now about reconstruction and going to have mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time. It's still so scary talking through the surgery and recovery period. I'm going for pre op on Monday and should get my surgery date on Tuesday. Do you have a surgery date?

I keep going up and down. One minute I'm ok with it all and the next I'm feeling completely *** xx
