Mesothelioma

Hello,

I wonder if I may get some advice on the following.  A relative of mine went to hospital 4 weeks ago with breathing difficulties.  he had been told by Dr he had a chest infection.  the hospital said he had fluid on his lungs.  he was in hospital for 16 days.  never had a wash and his drain wound was not checked by anyone. he was leased and told no medical supervision at home he would need probally to come back in, he may have Aspectosis cancer.  he was 90 years old.

He suddenly had breathing difficulties again.  rushed back in to hospital.  told he still had infection. given tablets.  released no medical follow up by anyone.  several days later rushed back in.    Drs sedated him and withdrew oxygen without even telling us.  he died.

of course we are heartbroken. he was so strong and a mounted lifegaurd and worked all his life.  should he have been washed during 2 weeks in hospital.  should his wound been cleaned and checked. should he have been released without medical supervision given his age.  not one Dr ever spoke to us about his condition and they gave up on him and put him to sleep.  we visited him every day and could not believe what has happened.

please any advice appreciated.

  • Hi Steveeasy,

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience and what happened with your relative. This sounds incredibly difficult and tough to come to terms with - it's not surprising you have a lot of questions about this.

It's very hard to advise on what should or shouldn't have been done, as naturally this can really only be done by those involved in the care.

You may find it helpful to speak to PALS, who may be able to answer questions, alleviate concerns, or point you in the right direction for further support.

    Wishing you all the best,
