Biopsy 3 months ago, appointment finally next week

Hi,

Not sure if this is write place to post things, just needed to get this off my chest as its wound me up somewhat.

I had a Biopsy/Skin Graft from my nose mid-June, and had two cancelled appointments with the consultant in August , both cancelled by them.

I had a Doctors appointment this week, which when set in place on the phone was to discuss the skin graft I had had, or so I thoughts.

When I went to the Drs on Tuesday it was quite a surreal talk in that she assumed I had been spoken too by the consultant and started talking about the results and how Im feeling, when I said she was first person to actually speak to me she then informed me I had Skin Cancer (Invasive Melanoma was the wording on the screen).

I was a bit shocked in terms of I didnt really think to ask any questions, my consultant appointment is next week and Im assuming this will progress what happens next.

My main reason for writing this is Im now in limbo a bit in terms of what my situation is , Im hoping the biospy skin graft managed to cut all of the cancer away at that time, but Im assuming Im going to need more tests to see if thats the case, has it spread etc.

My wife is a bit distraught in terms of has this delay caused problems in recovery that could have been progressed in this time period, but again im in limbo and while Im trying not to think about it - its on my mind.

Anyway, thanks for letting me have a place where I can just put this into words :-)

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry you had to find this out from your GP. It's not good that your appointments were cancelled without arranging a diagnosis appointment. Hopefully the melanoma has been caught early and the delay won't have caused further problems. Next week's appointment should explain the next steps which usually involves a Wide Local excision. They will also tell you the depth of the melanoma.

I have sent you a friend request - if you accept it we can chat by pm.

Good luck next week and please let us know how you get on.

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
