squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis

Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma from advanced core biopsy of a cyst in my neck, ive also had Mri scan which shows enlarged retrophayrngeal node to 9mm and a chest ct scan which appeared normal.  My doctor has told me he can't locate a primary source of the cancer so i am being sent for a pet scan on tuesday and already booked in for surgery on the 22nd of this month.

Im 40 years old and extremely worried about what my life is going to be like moving forward. My doctor said if pet scan doesn't show primary source then he will remove the cancerious branchial cyst, take out my tonsils and remove some of the back of my tongue.

Does anyone on here know of any alternative to partial glossectomy as im very worried about voice changes (speaking / singing and also risk of food going into places in the body it shouldn't.

My doctor told me this cancer is highly treatable and would expect me to be in for day surgery and home same day but of course all depends on the results of pet scan.

I've been reading some of peoples experiences on here and my heart goes out to you all and hope i can come through this.
