Nasopharyngeal cancer. Understanding treatment

Hi.

Just joined to ask for advice.

My mother in law has just been diagnosed with stage 3 nasopharyngeal cancer. We are trying to make decisions for treatment

I'm british living in Australia. MIL is based in the Philippines.

Its seems a fairly rare cancer, so hard to get much info on the types of treatment.

Anyone have any information? Is the type and quality of the hospital likely to be important?

Considering if we try and get her to Singapore or Australia. The hospitals are probably better, but then that would involve her spending time further away from family. Which seems hard.

The doctors seem to say it will be 6 month. With 6 rounds of chemo,  21 days apart. Plus radiotherapy to start.

Hard to understand. This is really complicated

  • Hello JandG

I'm sorry to hear about your MIL's diagnosis. It's understandable that you want to make sure she gets the best treatment she can and it must be difficult with such a great distance between you all.

I know that we do have some members here on the forum who have been through treatment for different nasopharyngeal cancers and I hope that some of them will post to share their experiences with you.

In the meantime you might find it helpful to have a look at this information our website which includes information about treatment options.

Whatever decisions your mother-in-law makes about her treatment, we send our best wishes and hope that all goes smoothly.
