CT Scan Breast Cancer

Hi there,

My partner has a CT scan tomorrow which she is obviously worried about.  She had a biopsy yesterday and various other tests etc and a follow up appointment has been made off next week to discuss a plan depending on what stage it's at.

My question is is a CT scan for breast cancer normal procedure or is it only called for if something further needs investigating?

Many thanks and take care.

  • Hi Novan

Welcome to the forum, sorry that your partner finds herself in this position. Usually the ct scan would be done after biopsies came back positive for cancer then the scan would be carried out in order to stage the cancer. They appear to be jumping the gun a bit by doing the ct scan but then if there is cancer the sooner they can diagnose it the sooner your partner can start treatment. Please stay on the forum and let us know how your partner gets on.

    All the best x

  • Hi MagpieMaggie

Many thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

See what you mean by jumping the gun but at least they seem to be wanting to have everything to hand ahead of next weeks appointment.

And of course I'll stay on the forum and give regular updates.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi

I think it's normal to have CT scans and MRI scans so the doctors can gather as much info as possible before deciding on treatment. I had both for my breast cancer Its a bit of a rollercoaster at first but trust in your team who will the do the best for you.
    wishing you all the best

  • Hi Silverdays

Thanks for the reply and hope you're well.

That seems to make sense and obviously the logical way to do things.

Just after the diagnosis of my partner on Wednesday my mind sort of went into overdrive and you fear the worst, that's if it can be any worse than what it already is.

    Thanks again and take care.
