Overseas visitor diagnosed cancer suddenly while on holiday

My mum came to visit me from Venezuela for a month when on her birthday celebrations we had to take her to AE with an excruciating pain in her back...while checked in hospital they discovered she has womb cancer so extended that she is unable to walk in days...We are totaly devastated but also overwhlemed at the prospect of the cost of the NHS bill.

Can anyone help? Any institution, charity or organism that can advise us or help in any way?

Thanks! God bless you!

  • Hello Jaione

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. What a shock that must have been for you all.

Do you know if your Mum arranged any travel insurance before coming to visit you? If she did then the insurance company would be the first point of contact.

We do have some information on our website here which may provide some information for you. Do speak to the hospital's PALS department which is there to support patients and their families. You may also want to consider contacting the Venezuelan Embassy for any advice and support that they are able to offer your Mum.

I'm sorry that I'm not able to help with more information. I hope that you're able to find some support and that your Mum can receive the care that she needs.

    Best wishes,
