Seven week wait from diagnosis to op - Invasive Breast cance

Hi,

My mother was diagnosed with grade 2 Invasive ductal carcinoma on the 13th July and we've found out today that her operation isn't planned in provisionally until the 5th September.

This is obviously worrying for her as her mind will be in overdrive worrying that the cancer will grow and/or spread during that time.

Haa anyone had a similar experience and a positive outcome? Looking for some uplifting stories to relay to her to allay her fears.

Also does anyone know how quickly this type of cancer grows? I know it can vary but any estimates.

thanks for any help

  • Hi [@Wanttohelp22]‍

Just to allay both your and your mum's fears I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma ER+ve HER2Neg right at the beginning of covid (24th April, 2020) when very few surgeries were being done. At the time they thought it was grade 3 (post-op regraded to 2)  I had my op on the 9th June 2022 - so a 7-week wait. I had no spread to my lymph nodes and have had x2 clear mammograms since and so far no further evidence of disease.

I just kept myself busy and worked constantly until my operation as it was lockdown I couldn't do much else!

    Best wishes

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it's really good to hear an actual experience of the same situation.

So pleased for you with the clear mammograms. May they continue forever for you

Best wishes and take care x
