Biopsy analysis

Hello, I wondered if anyone had received conflicting biopsy results. Omental biopsy said low grade serous ovarian cancer but then after staging laparotomy high grade which would have meant chemo rather than surgery from outset.

My mum had been told the low grade meant she would not be receptive to chemo. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if this was common?

Thanks

  • Cancer diagnosis' aren't set in stone. They can change from core biopsy, to full removal.  For example, some people get told they have triple positive breast cancer, they go in and find some triple negative cells. Same goes for grading. There's a few stories on here from people having their grading adjusted as the doctors get more detailed biopsies.

Scans too. Each scan etc is a snapshot from that moment in time.
