Treatment plan

Hi

I have had my 10mm lump removed three weeks ago, my oncologist has recommended

12 weeks pacutaxel, then 1 week radiotherapy and

Trastuzumab x 18 as I was found to be her2 positive  but everything else is fine including lymph nodes

I have to meet with her today and what I decided to do been a long week to make such a major decision and like you all hoping I have made the right one , full of anxiety and been very low

Like a few of you said it's such a shock that it hasn't really had time to properly register with everything happening so quickly of which I am extremely grateful  for

Trying to pull myself together

Anyone else had her2 positive results ?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for sharing.

I am in a similar situation. At 44, i found a little lump in my right breast a few months ago, it turned up to be a 10 mm grade 2, HER2 positive invasive tumor and found myself having surgery and syntenel node biopsy 4 weeks ago. I am only just starting to register what's is happening and just starting to learn about cancer, not an ilness that runs in my family. I am still waiting for the results of surgery/biopsy to hear more about my plan. Before surgery my oncologist suggested tamoxifen for 5 years (I am pre-menopuase) and radiotherapy. But will all depend on surgery/biopsy results.

I can relate to how you feel: the shock, the wait and the not knowing whether the treatment plan suggested is the 'best' possible option. I've tried to remain at work but I am in a rollacoster of emotions and started to feel quite anxious. Particularly because I am now suffering from a number of sice effects post-surgery (cording, tendinitis). I am starting to be more concerned about all the side effects of the 'treatment plan' and the impact on my quality of life. As a scientist and having watched Dr. Hannah Fray BBC dcumentary on cancer treatments, I am starting to consider to drop any further treatment and screen myself every 3-6 months if surgery has been succesful and there is no cancer in the lymp nodes.

I am not sure if this is helpful but hopefully to know that others feel the same may provide you with some comfort. Best of luck. :)

  • Good afternoon

Thanks for reply  really appreciate it. I did do a lot of research  as my cancer was so small and found fortunately  so quickly thanks to the great care I received.

I met with the oncologist yesterday following  my echocardiograph and had still not decided although it was however going in the direction of no to chemo just cos of size and statistics I didn't even fall in the 3%  but the decision was taken out of my hands as a factor with the heart had to be 50 and mine was 49 so chemo has been ruled out in my case during that appointment

So meds starting today , radiotherapy  in a few weeks , meet with oncologist in three months. I do feel relieve that the decision has now been made and I didn't make it, nothing I could do so I can only hope for the best regular checks and look after myself to the best if my ability. I am in my menopause  and the sweats are unbearable now I am off hrt , the tablets have the same side effects so hoping they cannot get much worse , meeting with gynaecology on Thursday to see what they can give me to help now I can no longer have hrt

Good luck and thanks again for your response
