I was called back for a hopsital outpatients appointment after my appendix ruptured. When I saw the consultant he said that when appendix were removed they looked normal and no tumours etc were visible just gangrenous and messy. Histology report confirmed there was cancer under microscope.
I had a CT scan with contrast plus a colonoscopy everything was clear . I was given several options and took the middle one which was to have part of my lower intestine removed plus lymph nodes as the concern wa s the appendix ruptured and cells could be floating in the abdomen. He advised that chemo would be needed after op.
The consultant had a look around inside at with his special light and was pleased after the operation that all tissue looked normal as did lymph nodes and he had had a good look round with his special light and tissue all looked normal.
I had both the operations laparoscopic so not went through belly button.
When I saw the consultant last week he stated that all the bowel, lymph nodes etc were clear but some cells were found in the scar tissue from the first operation on the belly button, which has been removed and nothing maybe in there ( removal of the appendix that appeared fine other than gangrenous ). He said that the tissue looked like normal scar tissue and it was unexpected . I have an appointment with Oncolody next week and I am thinking that the cells may have been from the first operation when removing the appendix without knowledge of containing cancer cells as it's right where the removal was . Has anyone experienced of heard of this. Feel like I'm back at square one having to have scans again. The original diagnosis was the management of possible microscopic residue. I just feel totally overwhelmed with it all .
