2 WW - Superficial Spreading Melanoma

Hi

This is my first time posting and I am a little anxious.  Long story........

Had a mole on the top of my foot for many years that the dr recently decided he didnt like the look of, it hasn't changed, grew to the size it was, around 4mm and stayed like that.

Initial biopsy came back as a changing mole so as a precaution the Dr decided to remove it completely, this was done in the surgery around 5 weeks ago.

Biopsy results came back showing Superficial Spreading Melanoma which he advised was nothing to worry about, they had got it all, but he would be referring me under the 2 week wait for a wider excision.  I'm now being told that I probably won't get seen until at least September.

I am now obviously worried that anything going on will continue to spread? Although surely the fact that the whole mole was removed is a good thing?

My Dr is currently away and I have spoke to another who is going to write to the hospital again. He said that they would have all the notes and the fact that I had already been diagnosed would be recognised and they will act accordingly.

Any advice, reassurance help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

  • Hi Deebs and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear your mole turned out to be a superficial spreading melanoma. I'm sure it must have been quite scary when those results came through but it's good to hear it's been removed and you've been referred for a wider excision to ensure all the cancer has been caught.

It's completely understandable you have some questions, especially if you may have to wait until September to have this done, so if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and support to you soon but in the meantime we hope you're able to get some answers and all goes well with your excision when the time comes.

    Kind regards,
