So scared

Today I have been diagnosed with stage three ductal invasive breast cancer, I have type two diabetic I have been advised I will be having chemo. I am looking for people who have had tge same diagnosis and treatment, scared  of what is to come . . What if the treatment doesn't work.

  • Hello Justathena

I'm sorry to hear about your recent breast cancer diagnosis. It's perfectly understandable that you're feeling scared and have some questions. I know that many of our members here will have also wondered "what if" after their diagnosis. It's a natural part of the process. Most people find that once a treatment plan is in place that things become a little easier to deal with.

It can often help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you'd find it beneficial to chat with one of our nurses. I know that they'll be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, some of our members who have been through treatment for breast cancer will reply to share their experiences with you soon. Keep in touch though Justathena and let us know how you're getting on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi I heard the nurse wrong , it is a grade 3 tumour that I now understand through reading lots of articles on line mean I have in incurable an er and probably have two years to live... I am so sad... I wanted to see the world

  • Hello Justathena

There is a lot more involved in giving a prognosis than just the grade of the tumour. I know how difficult it can be when you first get a cancer diagnosis and how tempting it is to search the internet for answers.

I know from another post that you've spoken with your breast cancer nurse again since your initial appointment. Do you know when you will be having your next face-to-face appointment?

Before that appointment, I'd suggest writing down any questions that you may have and I'd also think about giving our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. They will be happy to try and explain things and hopefully give you some reassurance.

In the meantime, avoid looking online for information. The best place to get answers that directly relate to your diagnosis and individual circumstances is your clinical team. The internet will likely leave you feeling more confused and anxious so give it a wide berth.

  • I am having a nuclear bone scan on Thursday, I don't yet know when my next face to face to face appointment is, I am struggling really hard with the news ...

i tried to call your nurses for advice but there is a technical fault ...

incant sleep for more than one hour I don't have anybody at home for support

none of my friends are answering their phones

    I feel so alone

  • Hello Justathena

Our nurses aren't available at weekends but I have found a link to the Macmillan support line which is open until 8 pm this evening. You can find more details here but their number is 0808 808 00 00.

Alternatively, you can call the Samaritans who are available to lend a listening ear 24hrs a day 365 days a year.

I know that this feels like a lonely place to be at the moment but there is support available. Reach out to one of the support numbers I've given above and stay in touch here on the forum.
