I have been recently diagnosed with bowel cancer of sorts, I had a polyp removed in January this year from the Distal sigmoid colon. About three weeks ago I was contacted by a consultant with the news that there were a tiny amount of cancer cells in the polyp with clear margins, I have had a further colonoscopy and another polyp removed which is currently being tested. The surgeon said that he didnt see anything that concerned him Had an MRI and CT in quick succession.
I have just had a consultation on the 28th of June, The MRI showed nothing of concern and the CT, as far as the consultant was concerned seemed the nodes were clear but she felt it needed closer study by a radiologist which has been arranged for the 8th of July.
The information given during my consultation seemed to centre around a surgical option, mention of a bag possibly having to be attached with the hope of further surgery to reconnect the bowel.
I understand the need for swift diagnosis and treatment but I am confused as to why at this stage there seems a lot of talk of surgery
