Mum’s diagnosis

Hi,

My mum has recently been diagnosed with cancer. It's in her breast, liver, lung and gallbladder and they said her lymph nodes looked enlarged on the CT.  There is an MDT on Tuesday to discuss the plan going forward. We don't know the primary source or any other information. She has lost weight rapidly over the last 3 months and is unable to take solids due to it getting stuck. I'm worried about the future and losing my mum. She's 56. Has anyone got any positive stories?

  • Hello superbecks

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's recent diagnosis. It's obviously an incredibly difficult time for you all at the moment and it's understandable that you're feeling very worried about things.

Hopefully the MDT tomorrow will provide the clinical team with some firmer answers about your Mum's diagnosis and what the next steps may be. Have they told you when her follow-up appointment will be to discuss these things?

I know that for many people this period of uncertainty can be difficult. Sometimes it can help to talk to someone about things and I wonder if you may find it beneficial to chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support, as well as help you think about some of the questions you may want to ask at the appointment. If you'd like to chat with them, they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch superbecks and let us know how things go.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you. It wasn't good news for my mum. She has been given 3-6 months. They are doing a liver biopsy next week to see if she can have any palliative chemo. I'm not sure if there's a chance this may extend her life? They couldn't believe how well she looked. I've got it into my head they've reported the wrong CT scan as my mums.
