Consultant tomorrow. What should I ask?

Hi,

I'm meeting with my mums consultant to discuss everything tomorrow.  Everything has happened very quickly.  From attending for routine bloods at GP, 2 weeks later they've found a malignant 14cm pelvic mass!

I've got the basic questions of primary, secondary, stage and grade, prognosis, treatment options.  But is there anything else I should ask?  My mums confusion is too great and my dad is too upset.  So I'm helping every way I can.

Thanks

  • Making a list helps you remember everything when you get there, how long in hospital, when will you start treatment?  will it be surgery? Chemotherapy first? The big question prognosis. Is it ovarian tumour or total hysterectomy?
They will give you the treatment plan and what to expect but as we are all different it can vary when they operate, l had unexpected extensive adhesions that took hours  to remove when l had my overies removed last year.
The speed of everything has probably taken your breath away, but it's much nicer than waiting around for results for weeks, biopsies seem to be taking ages at the moment.
    take care

  • Hi Emily,

Susie's response covered everything I could think of.

Just one thing, don't forget to write down all the answers you receive. The doctor won't mind as they know that stressed patients and their families only remember about 40% of the information they receive verbally.

    Good luck!
