Cervical cancer

Today I found out that I have cervical cancer I am waiting for a mri to decide what treatment to have. The consultant told me I have stage 1b . I have to wait at least 30+ days before I could get a appointment. How quickly can the cancer spread would anyone suggest to go private rather than wait NHS is am 32 with 2 children. I don't think I can wait that long to find out if it could be worse .

  • Hello Ali26

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's understandable that you're feeling worried and anxious about what happens from here on. I think that many of our members will agree that this period of uncertainty after a diagnosis can be very difficult. Waiting for further tests and not knowing what the plan regarding treatment will be leaves people feeling more anxious.

There's a lot of information on our website about cervical cancer that you may find helpful but I'd really suggest giving our team of nurses a call and chatting things through with them. I'm sure they will be able to answer some of the questions you have and offer some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

The other thing I wanted to suggest was giving the MRI department a call and letting them know that if they have any cancellations you would be able to attend at short notice (obviously if this is feasible for you). I know that sometimes this can mean that you're able to get an appointment quicker than is otherwise available.

I know that this is a worrying time for you Ali. Give our nurses a call and lean on those around you for support. Keep in touch here on the forum and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
